About the Presenter:
Dr. Haripriya Aravind completed a 6 month research fellowship at Kellogg Eye Center, Michigan, and started her career as a pediatric ophthalmologist. She is currently head of the department of cataract and IOL at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India. She is actively involved in teaching and training both residents and practicing ophthalmologists. She has received C.S.Reshmi award in AIOS 2008 for the best video presentation on innovative surgical training methods in cataracts, best film award for video on iris fixation of rigid IOLs in ASCRS 2010 film festival, Dr. Om Prakash gold medal for excellence at IIRSI, Delhi in 2011 and best doctor award for her outstanding contribution in the field of ophthalmology from Tamilnadu MGR medical University, Chennai in 2012. She has performed live surgery at various national and international forums including American Academy of Ophthalmology, Chicago in 2010, Asia Pacific Cataract & Refractive surgery association (Vietnam) and WOC (Hong kong). She is one of the co-authors for the book on phacoemulsification in challenging cataracts and one of the editors for the book on mastering phacoemulsification in difficult situations with DVD. Primary interests include management of subluxated cataracts, complicated cataract surgery and quality assurance amongst patients undergoing cataract surgery. Her area of interest is to develop systems and tools to monitor outcomes following cataract surgery in a high volume set up.
